A type of anxiety disorder in which there is fear of being in places or situations from which escape would be physically difficult or embarrassing if a panic attack were to occur. Agoraphobics become fearful and anxious in situations that they do not have any control or when they are too far away from their “comfort zone,” often experiencing panic attacks during this time. This disorder is very damaging to the people’s ability to function normally, causing them to feel anxiety when leaving their homes alone, and in very severe cases inhibiting them from leaving the home at all.
